Region of Choice (Victoria)

Region of Choice (RoC) is a Victorian Government initiative that aims to recruit and retain allied health workers in regional communities of Victoria. RoC offers a recruitment and retention service in regional Victoria for allied health workers and employers of publicaly funded health and community services. Region of Choice (Grampians Region)

RoC in the Grampians region is managed from the Grampians Office of the Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS). Regional stakeholder input into the RoC project is provided by the Grampians Region of Choice Advisory Committee. The primary role of this committee is to provide expert advice and recommend strategies to DHS on allied health recruitment and retention issues in the Grampians region.

Additional Allied Health Programs and Initiatives

Mentoring Program  DHS has funded MentoringWorks to provide a mentoring program throughout rural and regional Victoria.  The MentoringWorks program is geared toward all allied health workers across all levels.  The evidence based model will introduce new skills to mentors and new approaches to the mentoring process.   Click here to access further information, including upcoming dates for training in Grampians region.

Statewide Allied Health Workforce Education Program Continued Professional Development (CPD) for allied health supports and supplements the educational needs of allied health professionals and those who work with them, particularly in rural and regional Victoria.  It is free and open to all allied health professionals in Victoria.  The aim of SAHWEP is to improve recuritment and retention of rural allied health workforce.  For further information go to the SAHWEP website.

Victorian Healthcare Association  DHS fund Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA) to provide allied health scholarships and grants for undergraduate, postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).  There are guidelines and application forms on the VHA website.

Associate Professor (ASPRO) Academic Program This project led by Associate Professor Bev Phillips, Professor of Allied Health, La Trobe University, is a partnership between La Trobe University, Ballarat Health Services and the Department of Human Servicess.  The initiative supports the recruitment and retention of allied health professionals in the Grampians region by providing professional development opportunities, evidence based training guidance for clinical and quality and research projects and mentoring of individual allied health professionals.  The project has also developed strategies and provided support for the provision of clinical placements in the Grampians region for allied health students and a number of the universities.  For further information contact Associate Professor Bev Philips, Ph. 53203994 or email bevph@bhs.org.au

Greater Green Triangle Bursary Program  Bursaries are available to candidates in the Greater Green Triangle region who wish to develop their interests and abilities as researchers in primary health.  The main aim of the bursary scheme is to help individuals, practice groups, or other Primary Health Care groups to develop research and evaluation capacity by hands on involvement.   For further information contact Rachel Boak at email rachel.boak@greaterhealth.org
